new true love/hate

The past two mornings, we have been stumbling out of bed to a Bean that is on his stomach, having flipped over in the night. Not only that, but he has been pushing himself up on all fours before collapsing back down, and then pushing himself up on all fours again. As far as we can tell, he has spent most of his time today rolling over from his back onto his stomach, or from his stomach onto his back, or back and forth like he's doing baby aerobics.

Once he's on his stomach, it's anyone's guess. There's baby aerobics. There's grabbing the thing in front of you. There's the panicked dog-paddle. But as often as not, there is crying. It seems Bean has discovered the experience of making a big effort to end up in a place you don't know what to do next from.

Less philosophically, he has also developed a new move: lifting himself up quite high on his arms, and perking up his butt a little bit, he scoots an inch backwards before dropping back down to the ground. (We are still working on documentary footage of this maneuver.) Reports report that he managed to move himself about six inches backwards at some point today using this lift-perk-scoot-drop method.

Our days are numbered.
