our brushstroke of a boy

At the beginning, it was difficult to distinguish the sounds of effort -- tummy time is all about effort; even if you lay him on top of you on his stomach, he will try to climb -- from the sound that means, "I need help NOW." These days the two kinds of sounds are more distinct, but there is always a wobbly moment as, inevitably, the former melts into the latter.

But at least he's now a little more likely to solidify again after he's melted.
